India packs an entire world into one country — snow peaks, palm beaches, golden deserts and ancient cities. Here's a region-by-region shortlist of destinations worth building a trip around, whatever the season.
The Himalayas: Kashmir, Ladakh & Himachal
For mountains and cool air, the north is unbeatable. Kashmir's Dal Lake and Gulmarg shine from spring to autumn, Ladakh's high-altitude desert is a summer dream, and Himachal's Manali–Shimla belt works almost year-round.
The South: Kerala & beyond
Kerala's backwaters, tea hills and beaches make it ideal from September to March. Pair Munnar's plantations with an Alleppey houseboat night for the classic 'God's Own Country' experience.
Beaches & islands: Goa and Andaman
Goa is the easy, lively beach break; the Andamans are for pristine sands and world-class diving. Both are best in the November–March window.
Heritage & desert: Rajasthan
Forts, palaces and colour — Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur form a perfect heritage triangle, most comfortable from October to March.
